Andrew Stephen “Andy” Grove, is a Hungarian-born American businessman, engineer, and author. He is a science pioneer in the semiconductor industry. He escaped from Communist-controlled Hungary at the age of 20 and moved to the United States where he finished his education. He later became CEO of Intel Corporation and helped transform the company into the world’s largest manufacturer of semiconductors. He was the first person hired by Intel co-founders Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2000 and contributed significantly to foundations dedicated to finding a cure. He died on March 21, 2016 of unspecified causes.
After fleeing from Hungary during the revolution of 1956, he came to the US with little money and unable to speak English. He proceeded to graduate from the City College of New York with a degree in chemical engineering, then received a Ph.D in the subject from UC Berkley.
