Anne Scripps Douglas (November 18, 1946 —January 6, 1994) was a publishing heiress to the Scripps newspaper publishing; she was the great-great granddaughter of James E. Scripps, founder of The Detroit News. She was bludgeoned by her second husband, Scott Douglas, as she slept in their Westchester County home. She died in the hospital a week after being bludgeoned in her sleep by her second husband, and while she lay dying, Anthony Morrell (her first husband), who was suffering from advanced liver cirrhosis, left his own hospital bed to be by her side. After Scripps died, her liver was transferred to Morrell, saving his life.
Her two older daughters, Alexandra and Annie, noting that their stepfather, Scott Douglas, was becoming increasingly physically abusive toward their mother, urged Scripps to divorce Douglas and move out of their shared home. After she was murdered, Scripps’ three-year-old daughter, Victoria, indicated that her father, Scott Douglas, had committed the crime.
