David Adler (April 13, 1935 – March 31, 1987) was an American physicist and MIT professor. In condensed matter physics, Adler made significant contributions to the understanding of transition-metal oxides, the electronic properties of low-mobility materials, transport phenomena in amorphous materials, metal-insulator transitions, and electronic defects in amorphous semiconductors. His Cam Jansen books were adapted into a musical theater piece that was performed off-Broadway and later toured the United States.
After studying education and economics at Queens College, City University of New York, Adler paid his way through the master’s of marketing program at New York University by teaching math in the New York City public schools.
