He played at the major junior with the Verdun Collège Français and Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), where he was drafted 13th overall by the Hartford Whalers in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played in the Calgary Flames organization for three seasons before joining the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 2000. Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2003 before winning the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007. Giguère became the last member of the Hartford Whalers still active in the NHL as of the end of the 2012-13 season. His work between the pipes led the Mighty Ducks to a sweep of the defending champion Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the 2003 NHL Playoffs.
