Early Life

Tom Brady was born in San Mateo, California on August 3, 1977. He regularly attended San Francisco 49ers games in the nearby Candlestick Park. Watching the legend Joe Montana play was cited as one of the major inspirations for Brady in his own football endeavours. He attended Junípero Serra High School where he was known as a standout athlete in football and baseball, eventually becoming the starting quarterback of his team.

College Career

When it came time to select a college to join, Brady sent out numerous highlight tapes of his performances, sparking interest across the country. Eventually, he settled on the University of Michigan where he attended from 1995-1999. Here he battled with other quarterbacks to get time to play. Eventually, Brady would win the starting job and have a great record. Over his time as a starter, Brady posted a record of 20-5, including dramatic wins at the Citrus Bowl (1999) and the Orange Bowl (2000).

Professional Career

When it came time for the 2000 NFL draft, Brady anticipated he would be selected in the first or second round. Instead, he was selected 199th overall. This was a major shock, but it ended up being the pick of the century for the New England Patriots, a team Brady would play on for two decades.

Brady did not get much play time during his first season as a Patriot. His second season saw him step up to the starting position after quarterback Drew Bledsoe was injured. After this, Brady took the team all the way to the Super Bowl, beating the St. Louis Rams 20-17 and winning the Patriots their first ever championship.

From there, Brady would quickly become the best quarterback in the league. He went on to win five more championships in his time with the Patriots. In last year’s offseason, it was announced that Brady was finally splitting from the team, and had his eyes set on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the league was unsure what to make of this move, he has since proved the doubters wrong and will be playing in another Super Bowl soon.

Considered the Greatest Quarterback of All Time

In the 20 years that he has been playing football, most analysts would agree that Brady is the most accomplished player in NFL history. Much like Roger Federer in Tennis, or Cristiano Ronaldo of professional soccer, he is one of the most recognizable representatives of the sport worldwide. If he wins the upcoming Super Bowl again, he will likely retire after the 2021-2022 season with a record that may never be broken.

List of Achievements

Brady will soon appear in his 10th overall Super Bowl, of which he has already won 6 championships. He has more championships than anyone else in history, with the next best being quarterbacks Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw, each with 4. He also has 4 Super Bowl MVP awards, 3 NFL MVP awards, 14 Pro Bowl nominations, and a slew of other awards in the NFL. In addition, he also has many media awards and acknowledgements, like the Sporting News NFL Athlete of the Decade (2010s), and Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year (2007).
